An independent power producer (IPP) is spearheading one of the largest renewable energy initiatives in Zambia, developing 30 solar farms across the country with a total planned capacity of 1,500 MW.
This ambitious project aims to support the country's energy needs and export power to regional markets by utilizing ZESCO’s transmission lines.
They try to start with small project around 30-40million
Phase 1: Generating 250 MW without battery storage, ensuring immediate impact.
Phase 2: Divided into two sub-phases:
2(a): Adding 250 MW with cutting-edge battery storage technology to enhance reliability.
2(b): Expanding to 1,000 MW with advanced battery storage for peak demand management.
With a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) already secured for 500 MW with ZESCO as the primary off-taker, this initiative is poised to strengthen Zambia's renewable energy footprint and contribute to the export market.
