Steven De Schrijver is a partner at Agio Legal and specializes in mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, IT and media, data protection and privacy, cybersecurity, and outsourcing. He has over 30 years of experience advising Belgian and international companies on mergers and acquisitions and has advised on numerous national and international transactions in the TMT and life sciences sectors, among others.

His clients include some of the largest Belgian and foreign technology companies and companies in the innovative economy. Steven advises them on complex commercial contracts and projects in the field of new technologies, almost always with a cross-border element.

Steven has been involved in numerous projects related to IT, outsourcing, software and cloud applications, digital transformation, telecom/media (creation of the first mobile network in Belgium, the acquisition of the Flemish broadband cable operator and cable network, a joint venture for the launch of a new video on demand service) and data protection (GDPR). In the process, he has developed a passion for artificial intelligence, robotics, drone technology and the metaverse.

He is a member of the IBA Corporate and M&A Law Committee, the IBA Technology Law Committee and ITechLaw. He is a past president of IFCLA and is the Vice-Chair of ITechLaw's Tech M&A Committee. He is an honorary member of AIJA and a Belgian member of EuroITCounsel. He chairs the editorial board of "Computerrecht," the only Dutch-language legal IT journal in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Steven obtained his CIPP/E in 2019 and is thus a certified information privacy professional (Europe).

In 2023, he received the Who's Who Legal Award as "Global Data Lawyer of the Year" for the eighth time and is considered a "Global Elite Thought Leader" in Data by Who's Who Legal. Several organizations (Who's Who, Chambers, Legal 500 and IFLR) recommend Steven as an expert in corporate and M&A and IT law. He also received Lexology Client Choice awards for Corporate Law and Privacy Law.

Steven is known by his clients for giving 100% of himself to achieve his clients' desired goals. He is proactive, responsive, highly accessible and pragmatic. Steven has an extensive network of foreign lawyers with whom he works closely on inbound and outbound international transactions and projects.

He received his Licentiate in Law (magna cum laude) from the University of Antwerp (Belgium) in 1992 and an LLM from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1993. He is a member of the Brussels Bar.
